Biography

Born in Bilbao. Outstanding violinist since his childhood. Musical director of the “Kissar Ensemble” and president of the “BiziMusika” musical association, an association dedicated to the revision, recovery, edition, interpretation and diffusion of the music created by composers belonging to the geographical area of the Basque Country.

He holds a diploma in orchestral conducting from the Accademia Musicale Pescarese (Italy), awarded by the prestigious conductor Donato Renzetti. During his formative stage, he actively participated in various projects and masterclasses of the conductor Donato Renzetti such as Le Nozze di Figaro W. A. Mozart, organized by the Bottega Peter Maag (Pesaro), La Bohème G. Puccini, Le Sacre du Printemps I. Stravinsky and Cosí fan Tutte W. A. Mozart, organized by Ariadimúsica in Rome and is an effective student in the multidisciplinarian meetings organized by the Universidad de Alcalá (Madrid) with conductor Gianluigi Gelmetti. He also received lessons from the renowned conductor Oliver Díaz.

His great interest in the vocal works and enthusiasm for the union of the arts, led him to approach the great musicologist and orchestra conductor, conductor Alberto Zedda, forging a great professional relationship and participating both in the vocal interpretation course of the Universidad de Alcalá as well as in the Accademia Rossiniana of Pesaro.

He won an award in the international symphonic music high performance course-competition organized by I Pomeriggi Musicali Orquestra in Milan, as well as in the Progetto Brahms where he collaborated with the O. F. G. Rossini of Pesaro in 2019.

He made his debut at the Victoria Eugenia Theatre in Donostia with the Kissar Orkestra Sinfonikoa aggrupation, the Sarea choir and the Ballets Olaeta Association. (Production broadcast by EITB). Together with this ballet association, it carries out several projects, including its renowned EME.

He has conducted in theatres such as Teatro Rossini in Pesaro, Teatro dal Verme in Milan, Teatro Campos Elíseos in Bilbao, and professional orchestras such as the Filarmónica Gioacchino Rossini, Orquestra de I Pomeriggi Musicali, Orquestra Ariadimúsica, Orquestra de la Accademia di Pescara, Orquesta Sinfónica de Navarra.

He has worked as an assistant director in symphonic and opera programmes, in productions of the Sao Carlo theatre in Lisbon, Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro, Terme di Caracalla in Rome and Vlaamse Oper in Antwerp together with conductor Donato Renzetti.

He has worked with internationally renowned artists such as Gregory Kunde, Anna Pirozzi, Silvia Tro Santafé, Ángel Odena, Carmen Romeu, Mariola Cantarero, Luis Cansino, José Luis Sola, Damián del Castillo, Svetlana Aksenova, Alessandro Luongo.

His repertoire is extensive, ranging from the classical period to the contemporary period, giving special place to the Italian and French repertoire, highlighting Spanish music and in particular that of the Basque Country.

Kissar Ensemble

Founded in 2013, it began its journey with its first performance at La Nau in Valencia with great recognition for its interpretation. The following concerts have taken place in the Gare du Midi theatre in Biarritz, Campos Elíseos in Bilbao, the Espacio Ronda theatre in Madrid, the Arriaga theatre in Bilbao (where a world premiere of a work by the composer Juan Carlos Pérez was performed together with the Ballet Olaeta Association and the Sarea Abesbatza choir (under the direction of Andrés Juncos), and another world premiere of the operetta Caperucita blanca (by the author Carlos Imaz) performed at the Arriaga Theatre with the pianist Rubén Fernández Aguirre, who was also responsible for the musical direction.

One of his most relevant solo performances is the tribute on 27th January 2015 commemorating the coincident date of birth of both Juan Crisóstomo de Arriaga and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, in which the Adagio and Fugue and Quartet No. 19 (The Dissonances) by W.A. Mozart, and Quartet No. 1 by J.C. Arriaga were performed, in the magnificent Arriaga Theatre in Bilbao. The performance in the Victoria Eugenia theatre under the direction of Asier Eguskitza and in which the Soprano Carmen Romeu collaborated (it was broadcast by the Basque regional television station EITB) is worth mentioning.

Musical Archaeologist

Of his work as a researcher, he highlights the review of the work of J. C. de Arriaga, whose work he delves into to give his music the greatest authenticity and visibility. Specialized in the Basque repertoire and the interpretation of composers’ autographs. This work is the one that complies with the musical heritage, so that the current interpretation enjoys better resources and is more faithful to the original authorship.
